762,482. Casting-machines. MOORE, A. J. Aug. 19, 1954 [Aug. 19, 1953], No. 22811/53. Class 83 (1). A pressure die-casting apparatus comprises a die, a container for moltenmetal secured in air - tight relation under the die, an air-pressure inlet into the container, and a tube communicating with the gate of the die having its lower end submerged in the molten metal, said tube being constructed so as to have a very low thermal-capacity. The container 6, Fig. 1, holding a little more moltenmetal than is sufficient to fill the die 5, is supported in a stand 1 and heated by gas burners 3. A filling-spout 7 has a quick-acting cover 8, and presstire-air is supplied to the container through a passage 9 housing a temperature-measuring instrument 10. The inlet-tube leading from the container to the die-gate 12 is a refractory-lined cast-iron shell 14. In a modification, the container is supported on a ram, or by a rack-andpinion or toggle-mechanism, so that it may be lowered from the die for filling. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the container is filled through a spout 24, and the air-inlet 22 is connected to atmosphere during filling.
