Abstract
762,413. Tractor wheel attachments. MILLER, R. June 8, 1955 [June 10, 1954], No. 17047/54. Class 144 (1). A strake attachment for tractor wheels comprises a hoop 3 attachable to the wheel and carrying a series equi-circumferentially spaced open-ended sockets 7 into which the shanks 9 of strake arms 10 may be inserted from either end so that the strakes project either operatively radially outwardly beyond the wheel tyre 18, or inoperatively radially inwardly of the wheel, the strake arms being located in the sockets by collars 12 which bear against the respective socket end and bear the load when the strake is in use, and being retained therein by hookended spring-loaded catches 14 which are associated one with each socket 7 and the ends 14a of which engage in registering holes in the socket wall and strake shank. As shown, the hoop 3 comprises two concentric rings, the inner of which has apertured brackets 5 for attachment to the wheel. Each socket 7 has a catch housing 16 welded to one side to house slidably the spring-loaded end 15 of the catch 14. Ground-engaging plates 11 are secured to the outer ends of the arms 10.
