Abstract
An anti-condensation paint comprises an emulsion in water of a natural or synthetic resin to which may be added a natural or synthetic drying or semi-drying oil, or of a cellulose derivative, water forming the continuous phase and the emulsion containing 10-45 per cent by weight of a cellular, hydrophilic, inorganic filler such as diatomite, pumice, basic magnesium carbonate, or fuller's earth. A minor amount of a fibrous material such as asbestos, mineral wool or glass may be added. The synthetic resin may be a wood oil-phenolic resin varnish, an oil-modified alkyd resin, a phenol-formaldehyde resin, polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene, styrene-butadiene copolymer, a styrenated oil or styrenated alkyd. Emulsifying agents, e.g. potassium oleate, sulphated and sulphonated compounds, clay, bentonite or silicates, protective colloids and thickening agents, e.g. casein, glue, methyl cellulose and alginates, solvents, e.g. xylol or white spirit, plasticizers, e.g. ethoxyethyl acetate, preservatives, fungicides, foam promoters, pigments, e.g. lithopone, or titanium dioxide, extenders, e.g. barytes, china clay, mica or whiting, dispersing agents, e.g. sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate or polyethylene oxide compounds, and corrosion inhibitors, e.g. sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate or morpholine may be added.ALSO:An anti-condensation paint comprises an emulsion in water of a natural resin to which may be added a drying or semi-drying oil, water forming the continuous phase, and the emulsion containing 10-45 per cent of a cellular, hydrophilic, inorganic filler such as diatomite, pumice, basic magnesium carbonate, or fuller's earth. A minor amount of a fibrous material such as asbestos, mineral wool, or glass fibre may be added. The binder may be a linseed stand oil-natural resin varnish. Emulsifying agents, protective colloids, thickening agents, preservatives, fungicides, foam promoters, pigments, extenders, and corrosion inhibitors may be added.
