[Also in Groups II and XXVIII] Gaseous chlorine enters, through a connection 17, an annular expansion chamber 3, Fig. 4, and emerges thence through a channel 18 into a mixing chamber 4 into which air is drawn through a bore 19. The mixture, containing preferably from 50 to 90 per cent of air, is then drawn up a funnel 20 into the bore 14 of a centrifugal chamber 5 and passes outwards along a spiral channel 15, Fig. 3, the outer end of which communicates with an annular chamber 16. Into this chamber there protrude several nozzles 10, of which only two are shown in Fig. 3, through which water under pressure flows. Each nozzle 10 discharges into a pipe 11, the suction created by the discharge of all the nozzles being responsible for the movement of the chlorine from the expansion chamber 3 and of the mixture from the chamber 4. The gaswater solution emerging from the pipes 11 is delivered to, for example, drinking or waste water to be sterilized. Damming plates 21 may be inserted to maintain a certain level of solution in the exit end of each of the pipes 11 onto which further solution impinges with high velocity. In Fig. 1 a cylinder of chlorine 1 is connected in series with an expansion chamber 3, a mixing chamber 4 with air intake 13 and the centrifugal chamber 5, consisting in this case of a plate 9 identical with that shown in Fig. 4 and a block substantially identical with the centre block 23 of Fig. 4 except that the intake for the gas mixture 12, Fig. 3, enters radially a downwardly-extended bore 14.
