[Also in Group XXXIV] In a vehicle two parallel wheels 4, 5 are mounted for deflection about vertical axes or, as shown, a vertical axis 6, and two control members 23, 24 are provided to brake the parallel wheels differentially and to brake all the vehicle wheels conjointly, respectively. As shown in Fig. 1 hydraulic brake cylinders 7, 8 for non-steerable wheels 1, 2 are connected to a master cylinder 11 and hydraulic brake cylinders 9, 10 for the wheels 4, 5 are connected to master cylinders 12, 13, the cylinders 11, 12, 13 being connected to a make-up tank 14 but disconnected therefrom on movement by the pistons thereof. The piston rods 15, 16 of the cylinders 12, 13 carry abutments 17, 18 against which bear abutments on rods 19, 20 connected to the control member 23 in the form of a " joy-stick " whereby the wheels 4, 5 can be braked differentially to assist steering. All the wheels 1, 2, 3, 4 can be simultaneously braked by means of the member 24 in the form of a pedal to which is connected a rod 26 pivoted to a lever 27 bearing at its ends against abutments 28, 29 on floating levers 30, 31. The levers 30, 31 abut the piston rods 15, 16, 32 of the master cylinders 11, 12, 13. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the " joy-stick " control member 23 operates on the piston rods of the master cylinders 12, 13 to effect differential braking of the steerable wheels 4, 5. All the wheels 1, 2, 3, 4 can be braked simultaneously by the pedal 24 which is connected to the piston rod 32 of the master cylinder 11. The cylinder 11 is directly connected to the brake cylinders 7, 8 of the wheels 1, 2 and through the master cylinders 12, 13 to operate the wheels 4, 5, the connection between the cylinder 12 or 13 and the cylinder 11 being broken when the cylinder 12 or 13 is operated for differential braking. In each embodiment either the non- steerable or steerable wheels may be driven.
