[Also in Group XXXI] A device for the elastic suspension of an aircraft undercarriage on a wheel or wheels wherein the preferred embodiment relates to a motor cycle front suspension comprises a first member fixed to the undercarriage and provided with an internally toothed sector 6, a second member provided with an externally toothed sector 12 having a pitch circle radius equal to half the pitch circle radius of the sector 6 and meshing therewith, the smaller sector 12 supporting the axle 20 of the wheel the axis of which wheel passes through a point on the pitch circle of the sector 12 and elastic means 26 for counteracting the movement, under the action of the load, of the smaller sector 12 relative to the larger sector 6. As shown in Fig. 7, each front fork of a motor cycle is provided with a sector 6 which forms a bearing 9 for the pivot 23 of a crank 22. The other end of the crank is formed with a pivot 24 on which the hub 15 of the toothed sector 12 is mounted. A flat spiral spring 26 is clamped in a radial extension of the bearing 9 and in a projection 25 of the crank 22. The wheelaxle 20 is held in a semi-circular seat in the sector 12 by a member 16 clamped by a screw 19. The member 16 has a wedge-shaped recess defined by planes 17, 18. The plane 18 is forced against the axle 20 and the plane 17 against a plane 14 of the sector 12 by the screw 19. The axis of the screw is parallel to the plane which bisects the angle formed by the planes 17, 18. There may be only one arm 4. The arm or arms may form part of the folding under-carriage of an aircraft.
