Abstract
823,521. Spring suspensions. MOULTON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Feb. 9, 1956 [June 15, 1954], No. 17559/54. Class 108(2) Relates to vehicle suspensions of the kind in which rubber and metal sandwiches A in front of and in rear of an axle M have one set of metal elements L secured to the axle and the complementary set G at the other face of the rubber elements secured to torque arms K, I, which extend fore and aft longitudinally to pivot bearings on the vehicle sprung structure. According to the invention, the rubber elements are of disc-like nature and serve to locate the axle transversely and longitudinally of the vehicle, and a bolt E passes coaxially through each sandwich and carries a nut or nuts which are adjustable to apply axial compression to the rubber discs, there being a radial free clearance between such bolt and at least one set of metal elements. As shown, the torque arms are pressings formed as elliptical tubes. In another arrangement, Figs. 5, 8 (not shown), each pair comprises only two rubber elements.
