Abstract
761,157. Chucks. PRECISION INDUSTRIELLE. March 8, 1954 [March 9, 1953; Dec. 24, 1953], No. 6730/54. Class 83 (3). [Also in Groups XXIX and XXXIV] A jack, for reciprocating the chuck mechanism of a machine - tool and for ejecting the work, rotates with the chuck and has liquid supplied to it through fixed nozzles communicating with grooves in a stationary ring, which grooves register with passages in a member rotating with the chuck, the passages leading to either side of the jack piston. The chuck has a body 27, fixed to a spindle 1, and a collet 28 on a tube 6 fixed to an annular piston 5. A piston 41 is slidable in the tube 6 and carries an ejector 42 in the chuck. Nozzles 13, 14, 31, 32 communicate with grooves 11, 12, 29, 30 in a stationary ring 10 carried in a casing 17. A cylinder 4a which rotates with the spindle 1 has passages 15, 16, 36, 33 registering with the grooves in the ring 10 and is centred in the ring by bearings 18, 19. A small clearance is maintained between the cylinder 4a and the ring 10 so that a small leakage of the oil supplied by the nozzles takes place to lubricate the bearings 18, 19. Oil is supplied alternately through the nozzles 13, 14, grooves 11, 12 and passages 15, 16 to either side of the piston 5 to reciprocate the collet 28. Oil may be supplied through the nozzle 31, groove 29, passage 36 and passages 37a, 39 to one side of the piston 41, and through nozzle 32, groove 30, passage 33, through the space between the spindle 1 and tube 6, and via an orifice 35 to the other side of the piston 41 for the ejector. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the ring 10 is machined in the casing 17 and the ring surrounds the jack cylinder so that the channels 15, 16 are very short. The bearings 18, 19 are located on opposite sides of the jack.
