Abstract
Phenyl acetaldehyde is prepared by the catalytic conversion of styrene oxide at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst consisting of aluminium oxide and/or iron oxide. The styrene oxide may be passed in the gaseous phase over the catalyst and inert carrier gases may be employed, e.g. nitrogen, carbon dioxide and steam. In an example, aluminium oxide is employed as catalyst.
