516,586. Catalytic agents. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. June 29, 1938, No. 19343. Convention date, June 29, 1937. [Class 1 (i)] [Also in Group IV] Basic nitrogenous compounds are obtained by reaction of a vinylacetylene with ammonia or a volatile primary amine in the vapour phase at a temperature above 250‹C. in the presence of a catalyst comprising metallic cadmium and lead and (or) an oxide of a metal of groups 1-6 of the periodic system. The catalysts may be used as compressed pellets or supported on carriers. In an example, ammonia and divinylacetylene are passed at 325-370‹C. over a catalyst prepared by impregnating alumina with a solution of lead and cadmium nitrates, calcining the product to convert the salts into oxides, and reducing the oxides with hydrogen. Specification 451,794 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that benzene may be obtained by passing divinylacetylene or 1 : 3-hexadiene- 5-ine and an inert gas over a catalyst as defined above, associated if desired with iron or iron oxide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
