Abstract
760,823. Batteries. MOLL, P. J. Jan. 7,1954 [Jan. 9, 1953], No. 497/54. Class 53. An accumulator 1 having a cover 2 and filling plug and gas exit 3 is provided with a second cover 5 having a depending flange 6 forming a compartment C which communicates with the atmosphere through a duct 7 terminating in a union 8 for attachment of a hose. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the flange 6 surrounds only a part of the plug 3, a gas-tight joint being made by a washer 10. Fig. 3 shows a further modification in which the filling tube and gas exit are enclosed in a tubular projection 11 which is open to the atmosphere through a passage 13 passing vertically through the cover 6. Fig. 4 shows a battery of three cells having a common cover provided with three flanges 15, 16, 17, the compartments formed thereby communicating with each other and with the atmosphere by passages 18, 19, 20. The cover may be held in position by a strap passing round the battery container.
