Abstract
760,428. Packages. MEAD, B. R., MEAD, C. R. and HARDING, R. May 7, 1954, No. 13413/54. Class 94(1). [Also in Group VI] A package dimensioned and constituted for use as a drinking straw comprises Figs 1 and 3, outer and inner tubes, 1 and 2 respectively, between which is accommodated a charge 9 of concentrated drink flavouring or food miscible or soluble in water, &c. the charge being protected at each end by removable crimped seals 7, closely fitting caps 3 or plugs 6 of cork or wood. The inner tube is retained in position by a constriction 5 of the outer tube, Fig. 3, or splaying 4 of the inner tube, Fig. 1. For use, the seals at top and bottom are broken and the straw placed in water, &c. ; the flavoured liquid so obtained is sucked up the inner tube into the mouth. The lower ends of outer and inner tubes may be coplanar, or alternatively a perforated wafer 10 e.g. of sugar, may be fitted for preventing or checking the egress of the charge 9 on removal of the seal. The tubing and cap may be e.g. of waxed paper or of " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark). The outer diameter may be up to ¢ inch and the inner tube about # inch bore.
