The process described in the parent Specification is modified for the production of filled thermoplastic containers of various shapes having welded marginal seams extending completely around their peripheries A large thermoplastic container 1, e.g. a length of extruded tubing or tubing formed by welding together the edges of twc superposed strips, is filled with liquid or paste to be packaged and brought between a pair of pressing and welding tools formed with cavities defining the shape of the containers to be produced, e.g. that shown at 2, 2a or 2b. The tools are pressed together to bring the walls of the tubing into contact over areas such as 3, 3a or 3b, thereby displacing the filling and isolating a quantity thereof within the cavities, after which heat is generated by the tools, e.g. by high-frequency electric heating, to weld the contacting walls together. The completed containers are stamped out of the tubing by a tool which cuts along the centre lines of the welds, and the unused part of the tubing is emptied, e.g. by passing it through squeeze rolls, and the filling recovered for further use.
