Abstract
760,295. Knives. GARCIA, J. G. Oct. 15, 1954, No. 29787/54. Class 30. A knife, comprises a handle having two hollow longitudinal sections hinged to each other at one end and a blade movable longitudinally from an out of use position enclosed in the handle to an extended position for use by movement of the handle sections about their hinge, the handle sections being connected to the blade by movable arms each hinged at one end to the base of the blade and at the other end to a point midway along the length of one of the sections. As shown, channelled handle sections 1, 2, mutually pivoted at 3, form a sheath for the retracted blade 5 which has a base 7 on which one end of each of four arms 6 is pivoted, the other ends of the arms being pivoted, in pairs, at the centre of each handle section. The blade is moved through a space between the pivots 3 when the handle sections are separated and is fully projected by subsequent closure of the handle sections. A locking member 4 is provided and the ends of the handle sections, near the pivot, are shaped to hold the projected blade rigid and have meshing teeth to prevent relative longitudinal displacement. One of the handle sections may have indentations 12 corresponding to the position of the fingers of a hand gripping the knife.
