Abstract

1314274 Speculum MEDSPECS Inc 10 May 1971 [16 June 1970] 13975/71 Heading A5R A speculum comprises opposed members 12 (10), Fig. 2 (not shown) each having a handle portion 20 and an integral elongated blade portion 18 with a convex outer surface, the blades 18 being hinged together along a longitudinal edge 14. The members 12, (10) may be locked apart by means of a brace 22, one end 25 of which is connected to one blade portion 18, the other end 32 being engageable with notches 34 formed inside the other blade portion 18. The end 32 of the brace 22 may be disengaged from the notches 34 by a plunger 60. Alternatively, Fig. 7 (not shown), a pawl (82) is pivotally mounted inside one blade portion (18), being engageable with teeth (88) formed inside the other blade portion (18). Alternatively, Fig. 8 (not shown) arms (90), (92) are secured to, or integral with, the handle portions (20) and intersect beyond the hinge 14, one arm (90) having a stud (96) engageable with notches (94) on the other arm (92).
