Abstract

760,287. Forging. VEB LEUNA-WERKE W. ULBRICHT. Aug. 24, 1954, No. 24614/54. Class 83 (4). Means for turning a workpiece 4 in a forging press comprises a supporting member or members 7 disposed below the workpiece and suspended from the press crosshead 1 by chains 5 or other flexible members, the member 7 being so disposed that when the crosshead is lowered the member can be swung laterally with respect to the workpiece with the member in an oblique disposition whereby the workpiece is lifted during the upward movement of the crosshead and is turned by rolling on the member during its lifting. Two spaced parallel beams 7, (Fig. 2, not shown), are provided, each being adjustably supported by pin and slot connections 9 in shackles 6. The upper surface 7a is preferably serrated. If the workpiece is a long shaft, additional support may be provided for one end thereof by a chain 8, Fig. 2 (not shown), slung from a crane.
