Abstract
760,269. Electric motors. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND, Ltd. April 13, 1955 [April 14, 1954], No. 11008/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 35. In an inductor motor for high-frequency polyphase current, the number of teeth on the stator and rotor differ by the pole number of the stator winding, so that the speed of the motor is inversely proportional to the number of stator poles and rotor teeth, the stator and rotor being of moulded ferrite. As described, the stator, which is wound for a two-pole fundamental flux distribution has sixteen teeth while the rotor, which may be wound, has eighteen teeth producing a rotational speed of one-ninth of the supply frequency. The motor is rendered selfstarting by winding the stator to produce a harmonic flux distribution providing a higher pole-number and using the induction motor effect to provide a run-up speed which may be sufficiently close to the synchronous speed to enable it to synchronize.
