Abstract

760,029. Semi-conductor devices. BROBERG, W. O. V. Dec. 3, 1953 [Dec. 4, 1952 ; March 17, 1953], No. 33650/53. Class 37. A disc-shaped resistance element made of press moulded semi-conductor material such as silicon carbide is contained in a housing formed by two parts which are locked together by means of engaging hook-shaped projections on. the parts. The cup-shaped insulating parts 3a, 3b are each pierced with ventilation holes and are formed with four hook-shaped projections 4a, 4b on their rims. Resilient disc-shaped connecting members 8a, 8b each with an extension protruding through a slit in the end face of the casing half, are fitted into their respective parts with the resistance element 1 resting on one of them. Parts 3a, 3b are then pressed together against the resilience of members 8a, 8b and rotated relative to one another until the sets of hooks correspond, whereupon the pressure is released causing them to interlock, leaving an air gap between the casing parts. The resilient members may be replaced by spiral springs or by plane washers pressed against the body 1 by resilient lugs punched out of the casing parts, and one casing part may be of metal and may itself form one electrode. For identification purposes one or both of the casing parts may be made of dyed or transparent insulating material or may have transparent windows of such material, e.g. polythene or polystyrene.
