Abstract

Beads containing a fat-soluble vitamin, especially vitamin A, which retain the vitamin potency in animal feeds containing mineral supplements, and are of structure such that the vitamin is readily available on ingestion by the animal, are made by globulizing a liquefied mixture of a fat of m. pt. above 52 DEG C. and the vitamin, together with defatted soya flour, and solidifying the globules. Examples are concerned with preparing beads from molten mixture of hydrogenated soy oil of m. pt. 66 DEG C., lecithin, defatted soya flour and vitamin A oils. The formulation of a mineral feed supplement containing manganese sulphate, potassium iodide, ferrous sulphate, copper sulphate, zinc sulphate and cobaltous sulphate, and the procedure for incorporating this supplement into a feed with the aid of a carrier such as powdered limestone or oyster shell, are also given.
