Abstract

759,839. Universal joints. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. Feb. 9, 1954 [Nov. 12, 1952], No. 28473/52. Class 80(2) A coupling which may be used in motor vehicles or for driving machinery from line shafting in a workshop, is described applied to the washing &c. machine of Specification 759,836 (see Group VIII) and comprises a driving shaft 14 having recesses for balls 19 engaging axial grooves 20 in a sleeve 21 connected to a driven member 24, a part-spherical surface 29 on the end of the driving shaft contacting a similar surface on the end of a plug 26 screwed into the sleeve 21 and secured by a lock nut 13. A rubber &c. bush 30 is a friction force fit on the driving shaft 14 and has limited clearance (not shown) with the lower cylindrical surface 25 of the driven member 24, to control and cushion the tilting motion of the coupling.
