759,408. Magnetic recording or reproducing apparatus. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 7, 1955 [April 9, 1954], No. 10438/54. Class 40(2) A magnetic recording or reproducing aparatus of the type including at least one magnetic transducing head 1 comprising a magnetic core 3 provided with a narrow gap 4 across a record medium such as a tape 5 is moved, has the head or a member on which the head is mounted adjustably supported by a pair of spaced bearing surfaces 36 each of which forms a portion of a spherical surface, the head or member having means engaging the surfaces 36 whereby the head is capable of pivotal movement to vary the angular disposition of the gap 4. As shown, the head is contained in a screening can 2 and is mounted on a plate 7 in turn secured to a plate 15 having on one side of a vertical plane containing the gap 4 two apertures, one of which is elongated, to engage the corresponding surfaces 36, and on the other side of the plane an aperture engaged with clearance by a bolt 45 threaded into a self-locking nut 37 fixed to a plate 30 to which studs 31, 32 having the surfaces 36 are fixed and by rotation of which bolt 45 the pivotal adjustment is effected. Coil compression springs 39, 40 load the apertures in plate 15 and surfaces 36 into engagement and a similar spring 47 loads the plate 15 into engagement with the head of bolt 45. Riveted to the plate 15 is a strip of electrically insulating material 48 to which a pair of terminals 49, 50 is secured to receive lead wires (not shown) from the head. The plate 7 has elongated holes (not shown) for the fixing of the head and to permit backwards, forwards and also angular adjustment of the head in the plane of the plate 7. Instead of the plate 15 the surfaces 36 may be engaged by members secured to or integral with the screening can 2.
