Abstract
The invention comprises a 3b ,20-diacyloxy-5a (6a ),16a (17a )-diepoxy-20-pregnene of the formula <FORM:0759247/IV(a)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are the acyl radicals of hydrocarbon carboxylic acids containing up to and including eight carbon atoms and the preparation thereof by mixing a 3b ,20-diacyloxy-5,16,20-pregnatriene with an organic peracid, e.g. perbenzoic, peracetic, performic or monoperphthalic acid, at a temperature between - 10 DEG and + 40 DEG C. The reaction may be effected in benzene, chloroform, toluene, chlorobenzene, carbon tetrachloride, methylene dichloride or Skellysolve B. Examples describe the production of 3b ,20-diacetoxy-, 3b ,20-dipropionoxy, 3b ,20-dibutyroyloxy-, and 3b -benzoyloxy-, 3b -salicoyloxy- and 3b -valeryloxy-20 - acetoxy - 5a (6a ), 16a (17a ) - diepoxy - 20 - pregnene. Many other 3b ,20-diacyloxy compounds are mentioned. 3b ,20 - Diacyloxy - 5,16,20 - pregnatrienes are made from 3b - hydroxy - 5,16 - pregnadiene-20-one or from the 3-esters thereof by esterification and enol esterification.
