In a control system for railway signals and points having all-electric interlocking with interlocking and locking relays and with points changeable under direct manual control or under the control of route-setting devices, different kinds of currents and impulses are employed for changing over different kinds of devices, for signalling between a relay room and a control panel and for differentiating between through routes and shunting routes. Different types of impulses may actuate through the same conductors route relays, e.g. three position polarized relays which control setting control relays and interlocking relays of points to be travelled over and when necessary as in setting up a through route the locking relays of these points, and the setting control relays, and also the interlocking relays and locking relays of the safety points. Distinctive current impulse, may be employed for back-signalling the positions or conditions of the operated devices. The actuation and locking of safety points are signalled to the associated route points and the locking of this route points is only effected after the reception of the impulse signals indicating such locking of the safety points. Release of a set route is effected by a particular type of current impulse transmitted by key actuation at the control office or in dependence on the track relays to release the locking of the route points and of the safety points. In a practical embodiment described pulses of positive polarity are employed for setting shunting routes and pulses of negative polarity for through routes, utilizing three-position-polarized route relays so that only the appropriate contacts operate in response to the particular current. Both positive and negative pulses are transmitted along the same conductors between the route relays in the relay room and the control panel.
