Abstract

758,523. Gas turbineplant. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., J. July 27, 1954 [Aug. 13, 1953], No. 22439/53. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXIX] Apparatus for controlling the fuel supply to or otherwise regulating the operation of a jet-propulsion or gas turbine engine in response to the ratio of the blower delivery pressure to atmospheric pressure or the pressure at the blower inlet comprises a liquid operated servo-mechanism the control means of which includes a lever k actuated by two members d, q responsive to two pressure differences, one of the members d being an axially deformable elastic capsule one end of which is pivotally attached to the lever and the other end of which is movable by the servo-mechanism to vary the inclination of the axis of the capsule d relative to the lever and so vary the effective force of the capsule on the lever. Blower delivery pressure acts on the evacuated capsule d and also externally on a capsule q the interior of which is open atmospheric pressure or blower inlet pressure through a passage s. The spring-loaded servo-piston b is controlled by a vent valve j carried on the lever k. The piston rod c extends through both ends of the cylinder a, its lower end being connected to a member to be operated and its upper end being connected by a link v and pivoted arms t, u to the outer end of the evacuated capsule d, the inner end of which is pivoted to one end of the lever k. The lever k is loaded by a spring wand is pivoted between two compartments of a chambered body o. The lever is also actuated by the capsule q which has its axis at right angles to the lever. Blower delivery pressure'is effective on the. outside of both capsules through a passage r, The arrangement is such that if a change occurs in one of the pressures and hence in their ratio, the servo-piston operates on the capsule d to re-balance the forces on the lever and the position of the piston b is then indicative of the new ratio. In a modification, the vent valve j is replaced by an obturator or occulter adapted to interrupt the flow of servo-liquid to the top of the piston b, the capsule q is evacuated, and the capsule d is open to the atmosphere through a passage in the arm t and its supporting spindle.
