Abstract

758,252. Arc-rupturing in switches. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A. March 15, 1954 [March 20, 1953], No. 7804/53. Class 38(5) In a polyphase bus - bar system B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP>, B<SP>3</SP>, a single set of resistors R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> is connected to the bus-bars on operation of any one of the circuit-breakers (as L, M, N) connected to the bars. Connection is effected by closure of a switch G<SP>1</SP>, G<SP>2</SP>, G<SP>3</SP> which reopens automatically at the conclusion of the operation, or (Fig. 2, not shown) the transient voltage set up after arc-extinction may be arranged to breakdown a spark-discharge gap which has been opened to atmosphere by operation of a valve on tripping of a breaker. The resistor may be tranformer-connected to the bus-bars and where bus-zone protection is provided, the resistors may be included in it, or the protection may be temporarily immobilized while they are in circuit.
