[Also in Group I] A tractor of the type having power lift links operating a drop hook 45, Figs. 2 and 4, is also provided with a forward coupling member 10 so that the tractor may be coupled to a side frame 13. The frame 13 has a ground wheel 14, a castor wheel 35 or a skid, a screw jack stand 36 and a tongue 34 provided with an eye 44 engageable with the drop hook 45. The frame member 31, Figs. 6 and 7, has a clevis 60 with a cross-pin 61 which may enter V- shaped jaws 64, 65 on the tractor, and the jaw 64 is formed by spaced parallel sides which contain a latch 68 pivoted at 69 and urged to a closed position by a spring 71. The latch includes a downwardly extending ear 70 which may close the entrance to the jaws, and is provided with a slot 72 receiving a spring- biased pawl 74 pivoted at 75 to the ear 70 and including a lip 76 engageable with the extremity of the jaw 64. In operation the frame 13 is initially supported by the wheels 14 and 35 and the stand 36 with the eye 44 below the hook 45. The hook 45 is then lowered and the tractor reversed to pick up the eye 44, the driver sighting the edge 58 of the tongue 34 with the telescopic link 55, and reversing the tractor until a position stop 59 engages a cross-arm 52. The hook and eye are then raised until the snap latch of the link 55 engages and holds the hook in position, in which position the hook is closed by a latch 50 and the wheel 35 is clear of the ground. Further reversing of the tractor causes the frame 13 to converge upon it, until the cross-pin 61 strikes the pawl surface 80, Fig. 6, and forces the pawl to pivot to a position where the lip 76 clears the jaw 64. Further movement of the pin 61 causes it to strike the latch surface 81 and raise the latch to permit the pin to enter the jaws. The springs 71 and 79 then return the latch and pawl to their closed and locked positions. The stand 36 may then be raised by rotating the screw 39 from the driving seat. Quick uncoupling may be done in the reverse order, the pawl 74 being released by pressure of the driver's foot against an extension 78 of the pawl.
