Abstract

757,124. Lubricators. COLEY BROS. (TOOLS), Ltd., and COLY, S. E. March 25, 1955 [March 26, 1954], No. 8867/54. Class 12 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A lubricator for a pillar and bush of a dieset, or for a similar assembly in which a rod works through a bush or sleeve, comprises a moulded cup of oil-resisting rubber or like resilient material which is a push-on fit on the lower end of the bush and which incorporates means for receiving and retaining lubricant, the lower end of the lubricator having an opening for the passage of the pillar or rod against which the end is held resiliently. As shown in Fig. 1, a moulded sleeve 12 of natural or synthetic rubber is mounted around a bush 11 and a pillar 10 of a die-set, the upper end of the sleeve having an annular lip 14 which is a push-on fit on the bush and the lower end having two scraping edges 17, 18 bearing resiliently on the pillar 10. Below the lip 14 the sleeve 12 is spaced from the back to form a reservoir 13 for lubricant, at the bottom of which is a recess 15 to receive an annular wick 16. Inwardly-projecting ribs are provided to maintain the spacing of the wall of the sleeve from the bush 11. The oil is supplied to the reservoir 13 through a hole 20. In a modification the lubricator is moulded with a radiallyprojecting spout for the introduction of oil. In the construction shown in Fig. 9, the rubber cup 30 has an annular recess 32 forming a primary reservoir, into which oil can be supplied through a hole 33. The recess is closed by a shoulder 34 below which is a secondary reservoir 35 closed at the bottom by an annular edge grooved to form two scraping edges 37, 38. As relative movement takes place between the bush 11 and pillar 10 flexing of the cup allows oil to flow from the primary reservoir to the secondary reservoir. If desired a radial groove 39 may be provided for free passage of oil to the secondary reservoir. In the construction shown in Fig. 12, the cup 42 has a single annular recess 41 and at the bottom end has an annular upstanding wall 43 which bears against the bottom of the bush 11 and is slightly tapered to provide a secondary reservoir between the wall and the pillar 10. The wall retains oil in the recess 41 when the pillar 10 is withdrawn from the bush 10. The lubricator may be retained on the bush by its resiliency, by adhesive, or by a spring ring. A resilient re-inforcing wire may be incorporated in the upper end of the lubricator.
