Abstract

757,076. Ornamenting. ORNAPRESS AKT-GES. Nov. 17, 1952 [Nov. 15, 1951; Nov. 6, 1952], No. 29037/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 93 [Also in Group VIII] Decorated synthetic resin objects are made by colour-printing on cellulosic paper that has been impregnated to give high wet-strength, impregnating the printed paper with a thermosetting synthetic resin and at the same time removing any air contained in the paper, partly condensing the resin, supplying moisture, e.g. as water vapour, to remove brittleness resulting from the condensation, placing the paper with its printed side in contact with further partly condensed thermosetting synthetic resin material, and hot-pressing the assembly., The wet-strength impregnant may be degraded starch, or a melamine resin which may be added as a powder or an aqueous solution to the pulp from which the paper is made, and dried or partly condensed on the paper. Aluminium powder or fibres may be incorporated in the paper. The paper may be heated by a high frequency field after printing. The impregnant for the printed paper which may be phenol-, urea-, or melamineformaldehyde, is applied by immersing the paper in the impregnant in a cointainer in which vacuum and pressure are produced alternately. The resin-impregnated paper may be creped before drying. A condensation catalyst, e.g. formic acid, may be added to the water vapour used for re-moistening the dried, resin-impregnated paper. The colouring matter should be free from fat in order that it may not repel the subsequently applied resin,
