Abstract

Class 68(2) In the underwater casting of concrete using a spout a and hopper b, the concrete is maintained at all times at the minimum level e such that the height h above the deposited concrete compen. sates the water head H bearing on the concrete. Th E spout a may be made from sections each comprising twc half cylinders bolted together the lowest section, which is in one piece and has adjustable concrete discharge apertures, carries a pulley round which a hoisting cable passes so that as the casting proceeds' the whole spout, except the hopper b, may be raised, each uppermost section immediately below the hopper being dismantled and removed, at a platform just below the working platform, as it rises. The rate of. winding of the hoisting cable may be controlled by photo-electric cells or other means to ensure that the height of concrete in the spout is maintained. Forms of priming plugs and of means for adjusting the sizes of the concrete discharge apertures are described in detail and reference is made to vibrators for the concrete.
