Abstract
756,212. Dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 5, 1954 [April 3, 1953], No. 9944/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XIII] Converting electric energy into motion of fluids by the action of magnetic fields.-In an electromagnetic pump for molten metal, e.g. molten sodium, thermal insulation 11 (see Group XIII) having one or more layers, each comprising sheet metal of low emissivity and metallic cloth of high thermal resistivity, is inverted between the walls of a flat rectangular pipe 12 and the magnetic, stators 13. Slots 14 in the stators contain electric windings 15 which produce a travelling electric field to pump the liquid through the pipe.
