Abstract

The invention comprises (1) pyrimidyl sulphuric esters of the formula <FORM:0756189/IV(a)/1> and (2) the production of 5-hydroxy-pyrimidines by hydrolysis of the above esters; R1 is hydroxyl or -NAB where A and B are hydrogen or hydrocarbon radicals (which may form a ring with the N atom), R2 is amino, hydroxyl or alkyl and R3 is hydrogen, hydroxyl or alkyl. The sulphuric esters are made by treating the corresponding R1, R2, R3-substituted pyrimidines with a water-soluble persulphate, e.g. ammonium persulphate. Hydrolysis to the hydroxy compound is effected with an aqueous mineral acid. Examples show the production of the following substituted pyrimidines and their sulphuric esters: 4 : 5-dihydroxy-6-methyl - 2 - piperidino, 2 - amino - 4 : 5-dihydroxy - 6 - methyl, 2 : 4 - diamino - 5-hydroxy - 6 - methyl, 2 : 5 - dihydroxy - 4 : 6-dimethyl, 2 : 4 - diamino - 5 - hydroxy and 2-amino-4 : 5-dihydroxy.
