Abstract

756,184. Gravity-separation apparatus. ESPLEN & CO., Ltd., A. Jan. 19, 1955 [Jan. 19, 1954], No. 1541/54. Class 46. Apparatus for separating liquids of differing densities, e.g. oil and water, comprises a spiral baffle 15 located within and spaced from a casing 11 itself located within and spaced from a chamber 10 having a false bottom 29 provided with water outlets 32 leading to a sump 30 and discharge duct 37. The mixture of oil and water flows down a central duct 16 to the interior of the baffle 15 and oil rising to the top of the inner casing is heated by a steam coil 20 and is discharged through a valved outlet 18; the separated water being deflected by a baffle 12 before traversing the outlets 32 and the duct 37 which serves to maintain the sump 30 full of water. Test cocks 35, 26 (not shown), 27, 25 and 41 are provided at differing levels.
