Abstract

756,086. Automatically controlling dough mixing apparatus. JONES & CO., Ltd., D. A. April 15, 1955 [March 17, 1954], No. 7707/54. Class 86. Apparatus for making dough comprises a reservoir for water having an immersion heater element 9 to maintain the water temperature at a desired value and time switching means adapted, first to initiate delivery of a predetermined quantity of water from the reservoir to a mixing bowl and to start an electric motor 1 which is arranged to drive the mixing machine and, after a predetermined time, to stop the motor 1 and mixing mechanism. The immersion heater element 9 is controlled by a thermostatic switch 10 when a manually operable switch 29 in the circuit is closed. Another thermostatic switch 11 is disposed in the circuit of a heating element 12 disposed on or adjacent the dough mixer. A link 13 is connected at one end to a discharge valve in the water tank and is connected at the other end to a link 13a centrally pivoted at 14 and carrying a mercury switch 15. Link 13a is connected to the armature 18 of a solenoid 19 having a winding 20 which is connected in series with a time switch 21 and a manually adjustable switch 22. For automatic operation of the apparatus switch 22 is set so that it bridges contacts 22a, 22b. At a preselected time the switch 21 operates to energise the solenoid 19 causing actuation of the linkage 13 and opening the discharge valve of the water tank. As link 13a tilts, the mercury switch 15 closes the circuit of a contact operating coil 2 to energise the motor 1 and start the operation of the mixing mechanism. When the time switch 21 operates to de-energize the solenoid winding 20, the switch 15 will be tilted to open the circuit of the contact operating coil 2 and stop the motor 1. The motor can also be stopped by opening a switch 23. The mixing machine may be operated independently of time switch 21 by setting switch 22 to bridge contacts 22e, 22f and operating a push button switch 28. A signal lamp 30 is arranged to indicate when the switch 22 is in position to control operation of the motor 1, and another signal lamp 31 indicates when the heater element 9 is energized.
