A capacitor unit comprises an inner housing 7 containing a capacitive element 6 disposed in and spaced from an opentopped outer container 11 having an inwardly projecting shoulder at its upper end against which an insulating cover 12, with terminal wires 14 sealed through it and a circumferential groove accommodating gasket 13, is pressed by the inwardly bent edge of the housing. The inner housing may have a separate insulating cover 8 as shown in Fig. 1, or the cover 12 may be provided with an extension of reduced diameter which fits into the top of the inner housing. The terminal wires in this case have two sections of reduced diameter and are sealed into the cover during the pressure moulding thereof. The space between the casings may be filled with a heat-insulating dielectric solid such as glass wool which fixes the cases together, or mechanical fixing may be used with an oil filling.
