Abstract
756,030. Weighing-apparatus. STANTON INSTRUMENTS, Ltd. Dec. 1, 1953 [Dec. 1, 1952], No. 30464/52. Class 143 A precision knife edge balance of the type including relieving mechanism, effective when actuated to relocate the knife edge on its bearing, is adapted for continuous weighing by automatically actuating the relieving mechanism momentarily at predetermined intervals during a weighing operation. The relieving mechanism consists of a rod 12 sliding in a hollow pillar 7 to raise a platform 15 and arms 16 which have V notches engaging a transverse spindle on the beam 1 to lift the main knife edge clear of its bearing. The platform 15 is provided with pairs of pillars 18 and 19, the pointed ends of which engage one a V notch and the other a cone formed in the under face of the pan suspending pieces. The mechanism also includes plungers 20 to lift the pans 21. These plungers and the rod 12 are actuated by cams 22, 13 on a shaft 23 intermittently rotated by a synchronous electric motor 29. The motor also drives an interruptor cam through 2:1 gearing so that the shaft 23 will rotate through 360 degrees each time the motor is energized. The motor may be energized either from contacts actuated by a timing cam (Fig. 4, not shown), driven by a second synchronous motor, or from contacts actuated by a thermal interruptor (Fig. 5, not shown).
