Abstract

An aqueous solution of an anionic surface active agent is intimately mixed with a calcaneous compound in the dust or powder form or in the form of an aqueous paste or slurry. The mix is then filtered, centrifuged or otherwise treated to remove any excess liquid and the product is dried at such a temperature as to avoid decomposition of the active molecular group or groups of the surface active agent. After drying, the product is passed through a mill or disintegrator to reduce it to coated particles of substantially the same size as the original particles. The anionic surface active agent may consist of a surface active organic sulphonate or sulphate. The calcaneous compound may consist of whiting, ground limestone or any other form of finely-divided calcium carbonate. Suggested anionic surface active agents are lignin sulphonates, sodium methylene dinaphthalene sulphonate and sodium salts of sulphated higher aliphatic alcohols.ALSO:Particles of calcareous compounds are coated with an anionic surface active agent and mixed with Portland cement and sand to make mortar. The calcareous component may consist of whiting, ground limestone or any other form of finely divided calcium carbonate. The anionic surface active agent may consist of a surface active organic sulphonate or sulphate. Specified agents are lignin sulphonates, sodium methylene dinaphthalene sulphonate, and sodium salts of sulphated higher aliphatic alcohols.
