Abstract

Amides of the formula RCO-NR1ANR211 and their carboxylic salts RCO.NR1ANR211 HO.OCR are prepared by reaction between organic acids and dialkyl aminoalkyl amines at 100-200 DEG C. In the formul\n9 RCO is an acyl group derived from C12-20 fatty acid or a rosin acid, A a C2-6 alkylene group, R1 is H or C1-4 alkyl, and R11 is C1-4 alkyl and each R11 may be the same or different. Specified acids, singly or in admixture, are oleic, linoleic, linolenic, lauric, palmitic, stearic, rosin acids, abietic acid or the mixed acids of tall oil. Triglycerides may be the source of the fatty acids. Specified amines are dimethylaminoethylmethylamine, diethyl and dimethylaminoethylamines, 3-dimethylaminopropylamine, 4-dibutylaminobutylbutylamine, methyl isopropyl aminoethyl methylamine, and 3-di-isopropyl aminopropylamine.
