Abstract
755,265. Heat exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. March 24, 1954 [May 22, 1953], No. 8592/54. Class 64(3). Relates to heat exchangers comprising a plurality of plates supported by and movable along one or more carrying bars 1, the plates being urged together in juxtaposed relationship by means of a nut 4 and two spacers 5, 6 provided on at least one of the carrying bars. According to the invention, one of the spacers is angularly movable about the carrying bar to a position in which it is then movable axially along the bar to permit the plates to be separated. In the form shown, a movable press plate 3, also carried by the bar 1, is interposed between the angularly movable spacer 6 and the stack of heat-exchange plates. Fig. 1 shows the arrangement when the heat-exchange plates are clamped together by the nut 4, spacers 5, 6 and the press plate 3, the extremity of the bar 1 being supported by a column 2 in the usual manner. Each of the spacers is discontinuous about the bar for part of its length, the arrangement being such that after releasing the clamping pressure exerted by the nut 4, the spacer 6 may be turned on the bar 1 to a position where it may be moved back along the bar to the position shown in Fig. 2. The press plate may then also be moved back along the bar, the adjacent end of the spacer 6 being received in a recess 11 in the press plate. The individual heat-exchange plates may then be separated, e.g. for inspection or cleaning, by moving them along the bar: Various forms of the spacer 6 are described.
