[Also in Group XXV] A buckle fastening for a flexible strap, belt, or the like, comprises a rigid loop member 2 to which one end 3b of the strap is secured, and a rigid frame 1 having a pair of parallel slots 4, 5 separated by a cross-piece 6 around which the opposite free end of the strap is passed from below, the loop between the cross-bars 2a, 2b of the member 2 having a portion with longitudinal sides 2c, 2d which terminate at the edges 8 of a wider portion such that the tongue 9 of the frame 1 and the looped-around strap can be passed upward through it so that the sides 1c, 1d of the frame 1 bear upon the sides 2c, 2d of the loop member 2, and the free end 3a of the strap is gripped between an edge of the cross-piece 6 and the adjacent inside edge of the cross-bar 2a of the loop member, accidental loosening or freeing of the parts being prevented by so dimensioning them that the length A of the wider portion of the loop opening in the longitudinal direction is smaller than the distance D between the rear edge of the slide 1 and the rear edge of the cross-piece 6; also the length of the part B of the loop opening in the member 2 is less than the sum of the thickness F of the strap, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the distance C from the rear edge of the slide 1 to the front edge of the crosspiece 6. In order to disengage the buckle members the tab 9 is pressed upwardly from the end 3a of the strap, and the bar 1b of the slide is tilted through the wider portion of the loop of the member 2 prior to passing the whole of the slide 1 and the end of the belt therethrough. The two members may be stamped from sheet metal. In the example the rear end of the loop member 2 has a subsidiary crossmember 2h to which the end 3b of the strap is secured. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the members are made of moulded plastic material, and the sides of the loop member are formed with inwardly projecting guide ribs which terminate at the wider opening through which the slide member is brought on to the guide ribs to grip the free end of the belt wrapped around the cross-piece of the slide member.
