Abstract
<PICT:0754798/IV(c)/1> A process for sizing yarn comprises squeezing it in the dry state then without exposing it to the air drawing it under tension through a size bath and squeezing it again before withdrawal from the bath. Fig. 1 shows a textile treating apparatus in which yarn is to be passed through a sizing bath 1 the yarn passing over roller 32 and being squeezed between feeding roller 31 and bath roller 2. It then passes through a trough of liquid formed between bath roller 2 and sinking roller 4 into the bath and out between rollers 5 and 3. A tension measuring device 30 applies a differential control to the drive to rollers 2 and 2 so that the tension in the yarn is maintained at a pre-determined value. The sinking rollers 4 and 5 are connected by a toggle linkage 6, 7 to an operating member via a hydraulic or pneumatic system 15, 16 and 17, 18 so that the sinking rollers 4, 5 may be raised entirely out of the bath at the end of a treatment process, and the pressure between squeezing rollers 2, 4 and 3, 5 respectively adjusted, if necessary unequally, in dependence upon a number of variable influences. The bath rollers 2 and 3 can be moved in a substantially horizontal plane. In a modification. Figs. 2, 2A (not shown) the roller 32 of Fig. 1 is dispensed with.
