Abstract
An extreme pressure lubricant comprises mineral lubricating oil and one or more of trichloromethane sulphochloride (Cl3C.SCl), dichloromethane sulphochloride (Cl2CH.SCl) and monochloromethane sulphochloride (ClCH2SCl). In an example, an extreme pressure lubricant is described which consists of mineral lubricating oil and 2 per cent by weight of trichloromethane sulphochloride. Prior art extreme pressure lubricants are described which consist of mineral oil and lead naphthenate, phenyl chloroform, stearoyl chloride, dibenzyl sulphide, methycetyl sulphide or lauryl mercaptan.
