Abstract
754,499. Cathode material and processing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 20, 1954 [July 20, 1953], No. 21141/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). A cathode is made by melting a metal boride on a graphite support. The melting should be carried out with a movable heat source such as an electric arc so that already melted portions are not further heated so that they attack the graphite. The preferred boride is lanthanum hexaboride but borides of rare earths, alkaline earths, thorium or uranium or mixtures may be employed. It is introduced into a recess in the graphite block in the form of a compressed powder block of the right shape. Specification 683,940 is referred to.
