Abstract

[Also in Groups VIII and XVII] In a wrapping machine, in which a strip of wrapping material is applied to an article by a revolving shuttle, the strip 1 is fed from a supply reel 2 between fixed and movable knives 8, 7 and is guided by rollers 3, 5 so that it rotates a roller 6 actuating a counter 9 which has been preset by a lever 11. When the counter reaches its zero position, it trips a switch 10 in the circuit of a solenoid 12, the armature 13 of which carries a rod 14 actuating the knife 7, whereby a predetermined length of wrapper is cut from the strip. A brake on the reel 2 is controlled by a spring-loaded lever 17 which is normally held in an inoperative position by a pin 15 on the armature 13, but is allowed to fall to apply the brake when the solenoid is energized.
