Class 16 A fast bound or ring notebook for shorthand or like notes and having separate or hinged stiff covers, has each cover A, B, provided with a hinged extension A<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>1</SP> which can be folded flat against the cover A, B when not in use, the hinges C being such as to allow the cover A, B and its, extension A', B<SP>1</SP> to abut when in extended position and prevent hinging movement. beyond that in which each extension A',. B<SP>1</SP> forms a continuation of the cover A, B, the covers then forming a stand as shown so that the notes are on eye-level for a typist transcribing them. The hinges C may be a strip of linen or the like gummed to the cover and extension. The free edges of the extension A<SP>1</SP>, B' are provided with a strip D of rubber or other friction-presenting surface to prevent slipping. The rubber strip D is preferably roughened.
