Abstract

<PICT:0753315/III/1> A filament for use with magnetic oxygen meters comprises a bifilar length of platinum wire 1 with several cross-pieces 2, coated with a layer of glass dust deposited by electrophoresis which is subsequently fused by heating into a continuous covering, and covered with a fine layer of silicone varnish. This treatment prevents the platinum from acting as a catalyst in the presence of a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen, when the two gases would combine to affect the temperature of the wire. The wire may alternatively be covered by the silicone varnish only.
