Abstract
752,663. Artificial lines. CONTRAVES AKT.-GES. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 4, 1953], No. 3216/54. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XXXVI] A contact bridge intended for use at high frequencies between movable conductive parts of transmission-line apparatus &c. comprises a coiled spring embedded in a square-section cavity formed between the parts, the diameter of the spring being somewhat greater than. the side of the cavity so that it is pressed equally against each of the four walls and is deformed into spatial curves whose projections in the axial direction are ellipses. Two such springs 91, 92 may form contacts between an adjustable plunger 80 and a coaxial line 71, 72 in a frequency-measurement device. In a modification of this example the springs are mutually displaced in an axial direction so as to allow a radial overlap. It is stated that since the contact pressure is the same at all points of contact the transfer impedance across the spring between the two movable parts is a minimum. The contact surfaces and the springs are silver or gold plated to reduce ohmic resistance.
