Abstract

752,005. Electrically heated floors. BLACK. BURN, J. July 22, 1954 [April 6, 1954], No. 9985/54. Class 39(3). An electrically heated concrete . floor is formed by placing a base layer of concrete on a course 8 and allowing it to set, laying a heating element 2 on the layer 7 and grouting with cement which is allowed to set, and finally applying a layer of concrete 10 to the grout 9. The element 2 comprises a resistance wire 6 electrically insulated from a covering 4 of copper or other good heat conducting substance by a medium 5. Alternatively, a two wire element may be provided, Fig. 7 (not shown). In a modification, after forming the first layer of concrete and before it has set a continuous groove or grooves are moulded in the upper surface of the layer to receive the heating element. After allowing this layer to set the element is placed in the grooves and a second layer of concrete is applied and fills the grooves. In a further modification, inflated flexible moulding tubes may be cast in concrete, the tubes being deflated and removed after the concrete has set thus leaving passages through which the element may be threaded. Thermostat control may be provided. According to the Provisional Specification, the base layer may be of fibre glass or other insulating medium.
