Abstract

751,782. Carding-engines. SPINNAU GES. Feb. 23, 1954 [Feb. 25, 1953], No. 5221/54. Class 120 (1). A drive for a set of carding- engines, containing single cards such as breaker, intermediate and condenser cards, comprises a driving shaft, the speed of which is variable infinitely or in steps arranged alongside individual cards and adapted to drive the feed and delivery elements thereof as well as mechanisms such as weighing and feeding devices, intermediate feeds, web squeezers or " Peralta " rollers, and tape condensers; the drive also comprises a shaft rotation of which may be controlled synchronously with the driving shaft. In the arrangement illustrated, the swifts T of cards A and B are each driven from a motor 1 through a speed drive transmission 5<SP>1</SP> which may be varied infinitely or in steps individually or in synchronism with other such transmissions 5<SP>1</SP>; a shaft W is driven by a variable speed drive transmission 3 operating in conjunction with the motor 1 through a protective clutch 2, or the drive may be derived from the shaft of the swift as represented by the dashed line 6. The shaft W, through bevel gears K and individually adjustable transmissions 5, which are variable infinitely or in steps, and disengaging clutches if required, drives the individual mechanisms of the card. The motors 1 of the set A, B operate synchronously by centralized control from a switch box 1a in order to vary the delivery speed of the set the transmissions 3 are synchronously adjusted by means of mechanical coupling therebetween or, as shown, with electric motors 4 controlled from a switchbox 4a; such variation produces a synchronous variation in the speed of interrelated devices such as the doffer comb and/or the rubbing motion so that uniformity of the web and/or sliver is maintained.
