Abstract

751,484. Gear pumps and motors. ALBANY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 13. 1955 [Oct. 15, 1953], No. 28441/53. Class 110(2) A gear pump or motor has its gear wheels arranged co-axially with the shafts of its associated reduction gearing. The gear wheel 16. Fig. 1, is mounted for rotation independently of its shaft 23 which is formed integral with a pinion 33 meshing with a pinion 34 keyed to a shaft 24. The shafts are received in bearing sockets 21, 22 and are journaled in ball bearings 28 and needle bearings 35, 36 arranged as shown, the bearing 28, together with a seal 29. being located by a plate 30. The partition plate 12 is provided with seals 25, 26 which may be dispensed with when the pump is used for delivering lubricant. If desired, the plate 12 may be replaced by two plates carrying seals for preventing leakage of fluid from the pump and leakage of lubricant from the reduction gear casing respectively. A valve controlled by-pass conduit is disposed between the inlet and outlet conduits of the pump (see Fig. 3, not shown). In a modification, Fig. 4, the reduction gearing constitutes a compound gear train comprising, in addition to the gears described above, gears 50, 51 which are formed integral with and journaled on the shafts 47, 45 respectively, the gear wheel 48 being mounted for free rotation on the shaft 47. The gears may constitute straight, spur, or single or double helical gears.
