Abstract
751,324. Oil switches; switch cases. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP COQ. Aug. 18, 1954 [Aug. 24, 1953], No. 24037/54. Class 38(5) In order to prevent discharge of liquid through the vent 12 of a liquidimmersed switch, the vent communicates with the upper end of a chamber 24 containing a large number of baffling surfaces and the lower end of the chamber communicates with the interior 19 of the switch casing both on a high level, through a passage 17 of relatively great cross-sectional area, and, on a low level through a passage 21 of relatively small crosssectional area. The chamber 24 may comprise the interior of a tube 8 housed within a tube 9. Both tubes are secured within a cap 10 screwed to the cover 5 of the casing by a hol- Jow screw 11. The lower ends of the tubes are closed by a plug 13 having a central passage 15 communicating, through lateral passages 16, with the lower end of space 17 between the tubes and with outlet 21. A small chamber 22 communicating with vent 12 and chamber 24 may be housed within cap 10. Both chambers 22, 24 are filled with metal chips. Gases produced in the liquid during operation rise towards cover 5 and flow, together with some of the liquid, through passages 18, 17, 16 and 15 to chamber 24 where the liquid is trapped by the baffling surfaces. The gases then pass to chamber 22, where any remaining liquid is trapped, and escape through vent 12. The trapped liquid returns to the interior of the casing through outlet 21, which is normally below the surface of the liquid in the casing.
